Sartirana Textile Show 2006, Italy
Last year's Sartirana Textile Show stood out as a breath of fresh air in the crowded programme of Art and Antiques fairs, an initiative that successfully defied the general stagnation of the art market. This year 38 international dealers will transform the historic castle in Lomellina into a precious cornucopia brimming with textiles, finely woven carpets and impressive tribal art and artefacts.
A Special Exhibition, entitled: "Rugs from the Thunder Land", will be devoted to Tibetan weaving art. This
show, organised by Alfred Niklebil, will display antique examples of meditation rugs, mats, animal trappings and other textile and non-textile items, all coming from private collections.
A lecture program on the same subject has been organised, with short talks by international speakers, including the well-known dealer Rupert Smith and the Italian scholar Vittorio Ugo Vicari.
Originated from an idea of Alfio Nicolosi, the Fair has been organised under the curatorship of Alberto Boralevi, dealer and consultant of Antique Rugs and Textiles, together with the Rug Collector and Scholar Edoardo Concaro.
