Antique Ottoman carpets on display in the Museum of Islamic Art,
Berlin
The exhibition "Ottoman Carpets from Saxon Parishes in
Transylvania" at the Museum of Islamic Art in Berlin will go on until
7 January 2007. Along with carpets from Transylvanian Saxon churches the
exhibition includes rugs from Brukenthal Museum in Sibiu (Hermannstadt),
Romania. The exhibition includes 24 Anatolian carpets from the 15th-18th centuries.
The Transylvanian Saxons are a people of German origin who settled in
Transylvania from the 12th century and later.
At the opening of the exhibition 27 October 2006 Stefano Ionescu,
co-organizer of the exhibition also presented the German version of his
book "Ottoman Rugs in Transylvania" ("Die Osmanischen
Teppiche in Siebenbürgen").
