Rare 1630-50 Mughal carpet fragment

A rare Mughal Indian carpet fragment ca. 1630-50 (140-135 x 153-148mm)
is to be offered by Bonhams at the auction "Oriental
& European Carpets & Rugs", April 27, 2004 in New Bond Street,
London .
According to Bonhams it is one of the only examples in existence, with
two other fragments housed in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
City, and the al-Sabah Collection, Kuwait. The carpet was acquired by the
descendants of a family who purchased both the former premises and
contents of Jekyll's, Carpet Dealers, 74 South Audley Street, London,
active in the late 1920's.
